Portage & Main Outdoor Water Furnaces
This is my first winter with a Optimizer 250 furnace. I formerly had a Heatmor for 12 years. It ran great but was smokey at times and less efficient. So withe the 250 I'm impressed by its efficiency and construction, etc. It took me a while to learn how to run it. I learned these Rules. Rule 1: the wood has to be dry. Rule 2: Don't use even slightly moist wood since it causes creosote issues with the air control mechanism in the back of the furnace. Rule 3. When cleaning the firebox, don't get a lot of fine ashes get into the slot to the gasifer. The ashes mess up the dynamics of igniting the gasifier. Now that I know theses rules, my furnace is running fine and is very efficient and runs like a Swiss clock without creosote issues. I would not hesitate to suggest getting one of these to another person. Plus I am burning a lot less firewood.
